One year ago, I started up YesGoodMusic as a past time and it instantly gained a solid consistant following until my junior year of high school started when the site expanded. All of a sudden the websites views started to increase exponentially meanwhile all of the bloggers were in school during the day. The site went from having a couple hundred views daily to a couple of thousand. I had to decide what I wanted YesGoodMusic to be and how I wanted it to be different than the hundreds of other top class music/mp3 blogs out there. I couldn’t come up with that definition of what YGM is until recently and it still isn’t a complete definition. Everyday I come up with new ideas, but during the school year it was hard to update the sites look and add these new features so just recently I have made some updates. There are a couple of big new additions to this elite music blog that I believe will set us apart from the others. I will get into the features later in the article, but I want to get to posting the top 20 most viewed posts on YGM from the last year.
Rather than talking about the individual posts, I thought I’d let the numbers speak for themselves. The chart is taken directly from WordPress’s Sites Stats page. Now back to the websites new features. A lot of it is self explanatory, but I thought why not include a small description on the sites new layout.
First off, we added a couple of new widgets to the sidebar. 1) We added a drop down menu for all of the categories on the website. Right beneath the menu we have all of our authors listed. If you click on one of the authors names, you get redirected to a separate page with only that editors posts and a small paragraph so you can get to know a little bit about the author. 2) Next, we added a widget that includes the Top Rated posts. 3) Beneath the Top Rated widget is a box that features the most recent comments and the most popular posts of all time. 4) Under that is a box with my favorite current album of the month with a direct link to purchase it. 5) Lastly we have the most recent Mixtapes/EPs listed with blogroll, twitter, disclaimer and authors top tunes right beneath them. At the top of the page we have a slider that scrolls through the most recent reviews from the Concert Coverage section. The only other big feature added to the website is the Recommended Concerts calendar. This section features upcoming concerts in the NY/tri state area that I believe are worth attending. In each event, ticket links are provided and if I have seen/covered one of the artist’s concerts in the past, I also will link my past review to their show that most likely will include footage. I plan on expanding the calendar in the future by adding more concerts and by including other large cities worldwide rather than just have NY concerts.
To finish this post off I wanted to thank everyone who visits the site. We just hit a million views!!! Hoping to hit two million soon ha.
