Amnesty International Presents: The Secret Policeman’s Ball

The Secret Policeman’s Balls is the collective name informally used to describe the long-running series of benefit shows staged in England to raise funds for the human rights organisation Amnesty International. The shows started out in the mid-1970s primarily as comedy galas featuring popular British comedic performers and later expanded to include leading musical performers.

March 4th will mark the first time that The Secret Policeman’s Ball will be held out of the UK.  This show will be at Radio City Music Hall in NYC and will feature two of my favorite musical acts: Coldplay and Mumford & Sons.  I’ve seen Coldplay six times in the past and will be seeing them again this summer in NJ.  They do not disappoint, Chris Martin puts a ton of energy into each performance and I can definitely say that Coldplay is favorite band to see live.  Also, I’ve heard nothing but great things about Mumford & Sons live show, making this event even more intriguing.  Ok now that I’ve covered the music part of this “concert”, let me start talking about the comedy section.  Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, and Russell Brand are also all starring on this all star music/comedy line up.  If you don’t know Stewart from the Daily Show or Colbert from the Colbert Report, you have to be living under a rock.  Both comedians are great.  Russell Brand may be a little too vulgar for my liking, but he still is also a solid stand up comedian.
This is definitely an interesting event that I highly recommend checking out.  I’ll be in the crowd, get your tickets before they sell out on Ticketmaster.
