Phony Ppl came in strong to the forefront of the music scene back in January of this year with their debut, Phonyland. The album was in the making for three years and you can tell the work they put into the project since it sounded perfected. The album hit the internet by storm with a premiere over on Complex. I remember being swamped with midterms and homework when it was released so I never got it up. Doesn’t mean I haven’t had the project in rotation though. The jazz influenced Brooklyn based music group consists of talented young rappers, singers, and producers. On their new release, nothinG special, Phony Ppl once again delivered. This time with a more laid back sound and a standout feature from Theophilus London on “Morning After Pill”. The group toured with Theophilus London this last year and they have a few upcoming tour dates that you can view here. I highly recommend giving this EP a listen. The instrumentals are unlike most instrumentals you’ll hear on Hip Hop songs today and the verses throughout are very solid. This isn’t something you should skip over and if you haven’t downloaded their debut yet, be sure to immediately.
