Going to Macklemore’s sold-out show at the Bowery Ballroom last night was one of the best decisions we’ve made in awhile (other than stopping at The Noodle Bar beforehand). Both big fans of Macklemore, my acquaintance and I witnessed the powerful messages he delivered through his music; we just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see him live, and he didn’t disappoint… Click here for the entire review and live footage from the concert!
Opening for the Seattle native were growing artists XP and Champagne Champagne. XP has been featured on a few of Mack’s songs before, but quite frankly was nothing special. Champagne Champagne was a great way to get into the mood – they literally rocked the stage, and were all around nuts, getting the crowd pumped. Their drummer somehow managed to even crack the cymbal.
From when Macklemore entered at around 10:30-11, until he left the stage for good around 12:15, the place was as loud as a relatively small (crowd was estimated at 250 people max, probably less) group of people can get. You could tell most people there were die-hard fans, and he repaid all of us with one hell of a show. Showing off some stunts, Mack decided to walk onto the crowd. Not crowd surf, crowd walk.
Mack and Ryan Lewis sang mostly new stuff, starting with with Make the Money, and performing other popular songs like “Otherside”, “Can’t Hold Us”, “Wings”, “The Town”, and the ever-popular “And We Danced”. Besides being an amazing act live, he also came off as a real down-to-earth, fun guy. I remember Macklemore saying during his performance that this show was the most important one of his tour, and he sure proved it.

I also am happy that I was able to attend this concert. I only had a couple of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis tracks on my iPod before the show, but that didn’t take away from the experience at all! This was one of the only concerts that I enjoyed with out knowing all of the songs performed. I think B. Dot from RR summed up this concert very well by saying that “the Seattle natives gave arguably one of the best live hip-hop performances this year.” It was great to see Macklemore getting some love over on one of my favorite rap blogs. It is well deserved, congratulations Mack on a great performance! Also Respect Mag got lucky enough to interview Macklemore before the show, you can check that out here.
